COLOR GUARDS

In the early days of our Nation’s history, military color guards were assembled and marched alongside a drum and bugle corps on battlefields leading into combat.  Today, all military forces of the United States and their subsidiary units possess military color guards which are carried to represent their organization and are presented to render military honors as well as a symbol of respect and dignity for our illustrious Nation.

Marine Corps Color Guards are comprised of four members.

The senior member of the color guard is known as the Color Sergeant.  This member carries the National Colors and is responsible for providing military commands when maneuvering the color guard.  The second member is the Organizational Color Bearer.  This member carries the traditional Marine Corps Flag which also is referred to as the Battle Colors.  This flag have additional decoration streamers attached in order to recognize the organizations campaigns and achievements.  These two flags will be in the middle of the color guard which will be flanked by two rifle bearers.  The rifle bearers are symbolic to the notion that our Nation and its flag will be protected at all times.

The Selma High School MCJROTC Color Guard has been honored to present our Nations Colors at numerous events within our community.  Some of our events include Fresno Grizzlies & Visalia Rawhide Minor League Baseball games, Fresno Monster Hockey games, The Annual Fresno Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony, The Selma Band Festival, The Caruthers Fair Parade and various organization sponsored events such as the Selma Veterans Day Ceremony and the Memorial Day Commemoration sponsored by the American Legion Selma Post-12.  Our Color Guard also participates in numerous drill and color guard competitions and has built a reputation as one of the best high school color guards in the Central Valley.  In 2017, The Selma High School MCJROTC Color Guard placed second place overall in the first Annual United States Marine Corps JROTC National Color Guard and Drill Meet.
