OUR PROGRAM

     In 1994, Selma High School out of Selma, CA partnered up with the United States Marine Corps in order to establish its very own Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (MCJROTC).  Our beloved United States has 271 MCJROTC programs divided among four regions nationwide.  The Selma High School MCJROTC program is a component of the MCJROTC Region 4 which has a total of 60 programs located in all states west of Colorado including Alaska, Hawaii, Guam and Japan. 

     Our program focuses on leadership education that provide students / cadets with the necessary life skills to become responsible, professional and confident individuals.  Other areas of focus include the values of citizenship, a sense of accomplishment and a positive service to the United States.  This four year elective program instills discipline and help develop a strong moral character that assists the youth residing in Selma, CA both male and female to become successful beyond their high school years. 

     Upon completion of the first two years in the program, Cadets receive 20 Physical Education (PE) credits that meets their physical education high school graduation requirement.  In addition to their curriculum, Cadets participate in numerous extra and co-curricular activities such as community service events, nationally sanctioned Marksmanship matches, Military Precision Drill Meets, Youth Physical Fitness Competitions, Raider Challenges, Orienteering Events, Academic and Cyber-Patriot Competitions.  These events promote sportsmanship, competitiveness and teamwork.

      This program is NOT a military recruiting tool.  This program is developed to motivate Cadets in seeking a successful future whether it’s a college education, self-employment and or a military career if they choose that path.  Cadets that complete four years of our structured program and choose to join the United States Armed Forces will be recognized and could qualify for advanced promotions upon graduation from their perspective military basic training.  Our goal is to encourage the youth of Selma, CA to seek a well-rounded education and assist them in becoming future leaders of America.

      Since its establishment, the Selma High School MCJROTC Program has been recognized as an Honor School which identifies the top 20 percent on numerous occasions.  In addition, this program was the recipient of the Marine Corps Reserve Association (MCRA) Award for the 2019-2020 school which is awarded to the most outstanding program in their perspective region.  This is the highest unit award an MCJROTC program can receive and the SHS MCJROTC program has been awarded this prestigious award a total of 7 times since being established.  The Selma High School MCJROTC Program takes great pride in developing great leaders for the future.
