AIR RIFLE MARKSMANSHIP

     Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Cadets are introduced to the basic fundamentals of Marine Corps Marksmanship.  After demonstrating the mastery of the basic fundamentals, Cadets are afforded the opportunity to qualify with the .177 caliber air rifle and possibly compete as a member of the Selma High School MCJROTC Marksmanship Team.  The sport of Marksmanship is recognized as one of the 23 varsity sports in Divisions I, II, and III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and therefore various scholarships opportunities are  available to those who compete at the highest level.
     Marksmanship organizations such The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), which is  a government-chartered program that is designed to promote firearm safety to America’s youth, and USA Shooting (USAS), a non-profit organization identified by the United States Olympic Committee as the National Governing Body for the sport of shooting/air rifle marksmanship among others, collaborate to work together and or independently to host numerous nationally sanctioned competitions all over the country.   
     The Selma High School MCJROTC Marksmanship Team has been recognized as one of the best programs in the state and has qualified as one of the top 10 programs in the Nation.
